Hardin L.K. Coleman, PhD

Hardin is a Professor of Counseling Psychology and Applied Human Development at the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development.  He is also Dean Emeritus of the College, as well as Professor Emeritus from the University of Wisconsin School of Education.  Hardin  is serving as the Faculty Director for Character and Social Responsibility. His North Star is creating equitable access to high quality learning experiences for all children. His research foci include a) examining the strategies that individuals use to cope with cultural diversity with an interest on how those choices has an impact of behavioral (e.g., academic performance) and socio-emotional (e.g., college adjustment, wellness indicators, depression) indicators, b) exploring ways to implement an equity focused school-based  intervention with integrity and, c) understanding caring as a counterpoint to a polarized community by seeking to integrate the worlds of civic education, character education, social emotional learning, and equity in a way that centers an ethic of care, a focus on the development of one’s own and others character, and the building of caring communities in which our youth are raised and become leaders.

Hardin graduated from Williams College with a B.A. Hardin received his PhD in counseling psychology at Stanford University.
