Kun Chen, PhD

Kun Chen, PhD is a Professor of Statistics at the University of Connecticut and a core member of the Center for Population Health at UConn Health. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. His research focuses on large-scale statistical learning, machine learning, and health data science, with more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and research support from the Simons Foundation, NSF, NIH, USDA, and other agencies. In recent years, his work has centered on mental health data science and data-driven suicide prevention using large-scale medical claims and electronic health records. Dr. Chen is also an active leader in the statistics and data science community: he helped establish the New England Statistical Society in 2017 and will serve as President-Elect from 2026 to 2028 and President from 2028 to 2030. He also serves on steering committees for major data science initiatives connecting academia, industry, and government, including New England Rare Disease Statistics Workshop (NERDS) and Pharma Data Science Conference (PharmaDS).
